Huge Changes: Here's What to Expect...

In partnership with

Welcome back to The Chris Worsey Newsletter!

This week – for fairly obvious reasons – was a really big one. With that, there has been a lot of discussion about ‘the future’.

With the world seemingly heading into a new direction characterised by some hefty changes, it’s quite hard to pin down exactly what to expect.

What is for certain, however, is that technology will play a key role in dictating how the next few years will look across economic, social, and political domains.

As such, like every Friday, today we will be breaking down five of the most interesting stories that caught my attention this week.

Before we get into it, though, be sure to check out my newest Youtube video where I provide a detailed breakdown on my newest project, Valandor AI!

1) Trump, Elon Musk, and JD Vance: Where Now?

There was only one place that we could have started this week… Last Tuesday, it was all but confirmed that Donald Trump would retake office as the 47th President of the United States — but this story isn’t exactly about that.

See, within Trump’s inner-circle include two figures who stand not only synonymous with the President-elect’s political campaign, but also the emerging world of technology – JD Vance and Elon Musk.

With them by his side, some big implications are expected in the realm of innovation.

  • Coming from a Silicon Valley background, Trump’s Vice President, JD Vance, and projected head of the planned Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Elon Musk, will have serious input into the decisions being made in the White House.

    • Due to the two’s technology-based backgrounds, reports have emerged that the White House could begin to facilitate a close relationship with the tech industry.

  • With policy discussions particularly referencing AI regulation – a topic we have covered extensively over the last few weeks – recent trends could signal various shifts in Silicon Valley.

    • Furthermore, the election outcome could have significant implications on Musk’s other ventures, and particularly open new avenues for SpaceX.

2) Robots!

In recent months, Nvidia’s importance has grown significantly. Placing itself as integral to the development of AI by providing firms with computing solutions, the company’s influence appears to only be rising.

With that, the company has not let up. This week’s announcement? Well, let’s just say it could be pretty transformative…

  • This week, Nvidia has announced the development of new tools that are said to improve robot learning and humanoid development.

    • Specifically split into a lineup of various key advancements, Nvidia has revealed tools including six humanoid robot learning workflows for their ‘Project GR00T’, an initiative to accelerate robot development, and new development tools for video data curation and processing.

  • Potentially changing the face of robot development, Nvidia have both set a long-term vision for the future of AI integration and could further strengthen industry collaboration.

“Humanoid robots are the next wave of embodied AI… Nvidia research and engineering teams are collaborating across the company and our developer ecosystem to build Project GR00T to help advance the progress and development of global humanoid robot developers.”

Jim Fan, Senior Research Manager of Embodied AI at Nvidia

3) A New Era

When discussing many people’s idealised vision of what the future could look like, there seems to be a few themes that – no matter how inconceivable they may be – stick out.

One of those things is the idea of mass-integrated self driving cars. The difference between that and other things, however, is we may be on the cusp of seeing its fruition.

  • In the ride-hailing industry, despite Uber’s monopoly, Lyft remains its biggest competitor.

    • As such, to dethrone Uber’s dominance, Lyft needs to be creative.

  • With that, this week the company announced that they have struck three new deals related to the implementation of autonomous vehicles.

    • Responding to earlier deals of the sort made by Uber in August, the step represents a strategic move towards improving operations.

  • Significantly, as such deals become more common, the landscape of transport may shift dramatically.

4) A Huge Change

Football has a glaring issue.

Since its establishment a few years ago, the response to VAR has been mixed. Offering – in many cases – a fairer platform for accurate decisions to be made, the technology has been accused of being too slow and – importantly – too disruptive.

  • With its impacts being particularly felt during offside calls – where often fans are made to wait an egregious amount of time to hear the decision – FIFA, the game’s most recognised governing body, is taking a stance.

    • Striking a deal with one of the world’s biggest computer vision systems, Hawk-Eye, to establish a new joint venture, big changes are expected.

  • Aiming to develop new technologies for the game, the initial priority for the firm will be to improve the performance of on-pitch officiating.

“This joint venture is just another example of the extent to which FIFA is harnessing the use of technology to optimise football operations and to play a leading role in technological developments for the benefit of our 211 member associations.”

Mattias Grafström, FIFA Secretary General

5) Another Step Forward

It’s no secret that when reaching the pinnacle of any given industry, to maintain one’s position at the very top, restructuring is incredibly important.

In recent years, OpenAI has sprung to world prominence and – as such – may know this more than most. This week, an announcement was made that, although subtle, may be a game changer.

  • A few days ago, it was announced that OpenAI made the purchase of the domain Chat.com for $15.5 million.

    • Putting it at second of the (publicly released) all time reported domain sales, the move is representative of, perhaps, future moves set to be made by the firm.

  • Although the domain currently sends users to ChatGPT – the company’s current flagship product – it hints at a broader ambition which could see AI continue to expand and become available for more people.

That’s all we have for this week… Enjoy the weekend! If you want to stay up-to-date with even more interesting bits of news, make sure to follow me on my socials!
