Huge Changes are Coming: This Week's Review

In partnership with

Welcome back to The Chris Worsey Newsletter!

As always, today we are going to be looking into five of the most interesting stories that I found this week.

From the ever-developing world of air-travel, to AI, sport, and more, innovation has, perhaps, never been so dynamic. We’re here to explore how these advancements are shaping our world and what they mean for the future…

Before we get into it, though, be sure to check out my newest Youtube video on Elon Musk’s Master Plan!

1) The Future is Now…

While the content of these newsletters remains open-ended, subject to change and interpretation, one theme rings ever-present — the future.

So, why do we mention that? Well, in imagining what the future looks like – in its most exciting form – there tends to be a few wild visions that come to mind; one of them being flying cars…

Let’s get into it!

  • While, yes, this story may not exactly be about flying cars, on Tuesday, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) made a very interesting announcement…

    • Finally releasing the final regulations for electrical vertical takeoff and landing vehicles, the FAA has claimed that a new path has been charted for the “air travel of the future.”

  • Although the announcement may not sound so significant on the surface, the fallout from such regulation will allow for the first new category of aircraft since helicopters to be released and used.

    • Named Powered-lift Vehicles, the aircraft will be used for various means, however – maybe most significantly – as an ‘Air Taxi’...

“Powered lift aircraft are the first new category of aircraft in nearly 80 years… This historic rule will pave the way for accommodating wide-scale Advanced Air Mobility operations in the future.”

Mike Whitaker, FAA Administrator

2) AI: Where Now?

The recent development of AI has been undoubtedly brilliant. Over the past few years, the introduction of generative AI on large scales has totally transformed the way people study, work, and interact.

But, as is often the case, not everything in its advancement is positive. Contributing to increased avenues for misuse, issues such as disinformation, fake news, and plagiarism have become more common.

With Google’s most recent announcement, though, it seems we may be taking a step in the right direction…

  • This week, Google DeepMind – the company’s AI arm – announced that it would begin to implement an invisible watermark on its AI-generated text.

    • Working to minimise the negative effects of Generative AI usage, recent trials have been carried out on Google’s Gemini model.

  • Being invisible, the watermark works by altering words in detectable ways using a cryptographic algorithm.

    • With this, however, those working on the project have acknowledged potential threats to its implementation.

3) TGL: Finally!

It’s finally happening – TGL has released the schedule for its inaugural season.

For those who are unsure of what TGL is, a few years ago, TMRW Sports – a sports entertainment firm founded in large part by Golf royalty Tiger Woods and Rory Mcllroy – announced the creation of a new Golf league.

The vision was, truly, transformative…

  • Promising to revolutionise the way professional Golf is consumed, the idea behind TGL was to build a better, more immersive, future for the sport.

    • To do this, the company promised to harness technology in incredibly innovative ways by essentially having the most seasoned pros competing in an interactive, digitally-charged tournament.

  • Following years of difficulties in finally running the tournament, this week the firm took a huge step forward by finally releasing the schedule for this January’s start.

“In partnership with ESPN, our season will complement the PGA TOUR's FedEx Cup Season with a fast-paced team competition that aims to captivate a wide range of sports fans with elements, like a shot clock, that are familiar to fans of other sports.”

Mike McCarley, TMRW Sports CEO and Founder

4) Apple: At it Again

As we always say — once you reach the top of any given industry, it becomes even more difficult to innovate and create with the same motivation and at the same pace.

Although no-one knows this as much as Apple, that hasn’t stopped them from releasing some of the world’s most exciting products over the last few years.

This week is no different…

  • With it set to be an exciting week for Apple, reports over the last few days have teased the announcement of various new models and devices.

    • Specifically releasing teasers that point to the development of their laptop range, it seems that the company is set to introduce new iMac, Macbook Pro, and Mac Mini devices.

  • Powered by the M4 chip – a computing device that was first released in a device by Apple in May of this year – multiple upgrades are expected to come.

5) The Big One

Continuing on the same lines of what we spoke about earlier, as AI continues on its revolutionary path, so to do the troubles associated with it.

As such, governments are beginning to take notice and, this week, no other than the President of the United States, Joe Biden, has had his say.

  • Earlier this week, the White House released a memorandum by Joe Biden regarding the advancement of US leadership in AI practices.

    • Placing a specified focus on harnessing the technology’s power to fulfil national security and safety measures, the President divided his order into seven sections.

  • Specifically including a variety of guidelines regarding its use and regulation, the memorandum could be significant in shaping the way companies interact with the technology for many years to come.

That’s all we have for this week… Enjoy the weekend! If you want to stay up-to-date with even more interesting bits of news, make sure to follow me on my socials!
